Ahead of the release of his debut album next month, precocious Bristol-based producer Sebastian Gainsborough AKA Vessel has unveiled another track taken from the forthcoming record. Following the premiere of the beautifully widescreen ambience and hollow rhythms of ‘Court Of Lions‘ alongside the initial album announcement, our second taste of ‘Order Of Noise’ comes in the form of ‘Stillborn Dub’.
Dissociating itself from the dancefloor altogether ‘Stillborn Dub’ is an altogether darker proposition. Swelling with dark malaise, the fractured dub skeleton proves an engrossing, violent and seductive framework for Gainsborough. Pinned down by the viscous atmospheres, the echoing pulse of the drums and the loping bass, the disembodied siren song of the worldless vocals is mesmeric.
An intriguing series of singles for Left_Blank, Immerse and A Future Without – not to mention a number of scattered side projects and alter egos – have formed the beginnings of a bewildering body of work from Gainsborough, while leaving me none the wiser as to how to approach the young producer’s work. Dense, dizzying and restless, his tracks are structured with scientific precision while being both immersive and intensely evocative. His debut LP promises to be one of the most exciting this year.
‘Stillborn Dub’ is forthcoming on ‘Order Of Noise’ which is set for release on 15th October through Tri Angle Records.
