RECOMMENDED: VISIONIST – CIRCLES / IRIS (LNUK)

Visionist - Circles (LNUK)

Anyone that takes even a passing interest in the site will know that we are already keen supporters of both Visionist and the Lo Note crew, so the news that they have now linked up on their latest release is an extremely exciting prospect. Coming hot on the heels of  the recent announcement that the producer will be dropping ‘Control This’ on Desto and Teeth’s recently minted Signal Life label, Lo Note have just revealed that they have called on him to inaugurate their new sub project Excursions with double A side ‘Circles / Iris’.

For those who have been watching out, ‘Circles’ has been floating around in the sets of a select few as a dubplate for a little while now and it is great to see it finally getting a release. One of Visionist’s more broken, skeletal productions, it is at once jarring and hypnotically fluid. Self-perpetuating circles of tumbling kicks and cavernous subs whip around stinging synths and breathless vocal loops as it travels deeper and deeper into the abyss. The other side of the wax will hold previously unheard track ‘Iris’, which acts as a fitting counterpoint. Keeping to the same sonic palette as ‘Circles’ it works a more direct but no less jolting groove, torn apart by the taut bass swipes that rip through it. On these two tracks Visionist once again asserts his ability to craft brilliantly deranged leftfield club music, delivering two inimitably warped grime experiments.

Forthcoming on limited 10″ and digital, this double A side represents the first in a new series of releases under LNUK Records sub project Excursions. The label explains that “The project will explore deeper, niche cuts – providing a platform for both established and unheard of artists to push experimental electronic music.”
